As long as the reader keeps in mind that this book is the opinion of one man, God Is Not Great is a very
interesting read for Christians and non-Christians alike. The author presents solid facts that argue against
the traditional evangelical doctrines and presents his case for the argument of "is there a God".
Author Christopher Hitchens is not trying to convert anyone to atheism. He does present much food for
thought, something that can’t be bad for the mind. He spotlights many religious practices that point more to
superstition than fact. He examines the standoff between Western and Eastern religious practices, illustrating
that both sides of the argument believe just as ardently as the other. The reader has many "Aha! moments" when
you suddenly understand why other religions don’t believe as you do.
It is a complex examination of the world of religion, traditions and beliefs, sometimes a bit difficult to
follow due to his vast command of the English language. The author is very philosophical and his writings are
somewhat "above the head" of the average reader.
The author read his own writings for the audio version of his book, which probably made it more believable.
He has a nice voice and presents the facts without emotion or excitement. To listen to the audio book, one must
be able to concentrate on the narrator who is delivering information that is often complex and always intriguing.
The book definitely left an impression, much of which I still ponder. He brings up many good points about the
clash of wills exhibited by various religions and their practices, not just in the USA, but also all over the
world. I’d recommend this book for anyone who is interested in theology, philosophy and religious debate. Or
for someone who just wants to consider the way other people see the world. It’s quite an eye opener to the way
other people see the world.
