This was a great novel where setting was very important. This story takes place in Jamaica Bay Refuge, which is a part of New York City. It is a national park. This story is about diamonds being smuggled by thugs that were hired by Washington politicians. The amateur sleuth, Hannah, teams up with U. S. Customs officer Lager to try to figure out what is going on in Jamaica Bay. Hannah was born and raised in Jamaica Bay and stumbled across some mysterious activity when she was shooting pictures for a nature magazine.

The plot is very well done and consists of activity throughout Long Island and New York City. It has interesting plot twists and some unexpected surprises, like who becomes involved in trying to solve the mystery. If you enjoy reading about stories that take place in New York City or Long Island, and enjoy political mystery, you would enjoy this book.
