WOW! That's right - eye popping, jaw dropping, go-weak-at-the-knees WOW. MYSTIC RIVER is a book that grabs hold of you on the first page and never lets go. When we first meet them, Sean Devine, Jimmy Marcus and Dave Boyle are just kids from a blue collar Boston suburb. Sean and Jimmy see each other every Saturday and begrudgingly allow Dave to tag along. One Saturday, a strange car pulls alongside the boys and Dave gets in. Four days later he returns, or at least someone who looks like Dave returns. From this moment on, nothing is the same for any of the boys.

Twenty-five years later, Jimmy's oldest daughter Katie is murdered and Sean, now a State Police investigator, is assigned to the case. In the midst of a personal crisis, Sean struggles to find a motive or any evidence leading to Katie's killer. As difficult as it is for Sean to accept, his boss keeps returning to Dave as a suspect.

MYSTIC RIVER is a powerful story about how this crime affects everyone it touches, but it is so much more than that. It's about love, loss and friendship; loyalty and growing up. You'll not soon forget Sean, Jimmy and Dave. They are so real - so utterly and honestly human. If you've ever struggled to find just the right word, you will be awe-struck by this book. Every word is just the right word; every paragraph is perfectly, beautifully written. Lehane can break your heart in just a few poignant sentences. MYSTIC RIVER is a wonderful book written by an author with great insight into the human heart and mind. I loved this book and recommend it wholeheartedly!
