There are only a few survivors of a German U-Boat crew that were captured during World War II just off the coast of North Carolina. Now nine of them gather for their 60th reunion. A terrible explosion kills eight of the nine old men. Other survivors are being eliminated elsewhere in the world.

Carolyn Baker, a 36-year-old, unwed mother from Oklahoma, searching for clues to her biological parents, finds a reference to a man who may be her father and connects him to the murders. Carolyn Baker unknowingly holds the clue that could solve the crime, explain her own past, and expose secrets that someone wants to keep hidden.

The clues are coded and the race is on to find out the truth about why someone wants these survivors dead. FBI agent Dunlevy races against time to find the killer.

In his first novel, Curt Autry has come up with a unique, well thought-out plot and great characters. Dunlevy is a tough FBI agent with a vulnerability and tenderness that show up in his interaction with Carolyn's toddler, Kenny. The story has great dialogue and cover- to-cover action in a combination of modern political terror and a wartime spy story. There are lots of twists and turns in the story to keep you guessing, and keep you reading right up to the surprise ending.
