A Body to Die For
Bailey Weggins series, No. 2
By Kate White

Bailey Weggins is exhausted and just plain burned-out. Her job as a freelance reporter has been getting to her and almost getting killed by a crazy murderer a few months before has really put her on edge. Her mother's best friend, Danny, offers Bailey the chance to come stay at her spa resort for free. Bailey jumps on the chance to relax and also to get to spend some quality time with Danny; however, things don't work out that way. After Bailey's massage is over, she goes back to her room, only to realize that she left her dead father's watch in the massage room. She rushes down and finds much more than her watch. In one of the rooms is a dead body. It turns out that one of the massage therapists, Anna, has been murdered. Danny begs Bailey to look into this murder so she won't have to shut her business down. Bailey agrees, not realizing what a complicated mess she is going to have to sort through. Because of Anna's loose ways and her shady past, there are plenty of suspects for Bailey to consider. Things take an ugly turn when an attempt is made on Bailey's life. Luckily for Bailey, she has her fascination for the lead detective to take her mind off more depressing matters.

A Body to Die For is the second entry in the Bailey Weggins series and much stronger than the first. Bailey is much more fleshed out and has an engaging personality that kept me reading late into the night. I really enjoyed the way White was able to make the setting seem peaceful at first and then, when needed, eerie. There was absolutely no predictability, which allowed me the thrill of being shocked, which doesn't happen to me very often any more. I will eagerly be waiting for the next time Bailey puts herself in peril!
