After the Rain
Phil
Broker series, No. 3
By Chuck Logan
Read by Kevin Conway
All
Major Nina Pryce needs when questioning a terrorist prisoner is
duct tape. The result of this particular interrogation takes her
undercover in North Dakota, where she’s joined by Jane Singer
and Colonel Holland Wood. Nina’s job is to get close an American
terrorist named by the Muslim detainee.
Ace
Shuster deals in liquor. He doesn’t look like a terrorist
ready to attack his home country. When two arguing women come storming
in his bar with a young child in tow, Ace takes an interest, but
doesn’t suspect them -- at first. His buddy Gordy deals in
meth and suspects everyone. He thinks they’re undercover cops,
trying to catch him or Ace with illegal drugs or liquor. Ace isn’t
so sure, but his attraction to Nina has him playing along.
Phil
Broker, Nina’s husband, is the true lead character. Phil and
Nina haven’t had contact since she left on a top secret Delta
anti-terrorist operation. When Phil discovers Nina has taken their
daughter Kit on a recent undercover assignment, he hits the road.
Once Kit is out of harm’s way, Phil discovers Nina and Jane
have tricked him into helping with the operation. Phil joins the
team and the hero in him can’t help but shine through, once
again.
After
the Rain is quite a thriller. It’s contemporary and frightening.
The subject matter is military and terrorism and the setting is
America. It’s edgy, sometimes shocking, but most definitely
a book ready to make you think “what if.” After
the Rain is number three in the Phil Broker series.
Actor
Kevin Conway’s narration of the audio book version is measured
and suspenseful. His deep, resonating voice and the music add even
more drama to the story. The subject matter is mature theme so remember
those headphones. Highly recommended.
