The
Big Bounce
By Elmore Leonard
Read
by Scott Campbell
After
trying unsuccessfully to make a career for himself in baseball,
Jack settled for a more "interesting" career as a petty
thief. Jack is the man that walks when others run. His talent at
larceny and breaking and entering (B and E) is almost perfected.
He never thought he would meet his match
until Nancy. She's
the toy of a rich old man and desperate for some real action. Now
Jack is dealing with the experience of a lifetime. The petty crimes
only feed her hunger for so long, until the chance for a much bigger
score shows itself. Now Jack has to find a way to make the score
work without getting caught
that means trying pull the whole
thing off without Nancy becoming a liability. Can he do it and make
a new life for himself and the woman of his dreams?
After
starting this audio book, I couldn't turn it off for anything. It's
addictive and hypnotizing. Jack Ryan is the essence of the tough
guy with a rocky past, but somehow makes it seem so easy. There
is sexual content and distasteful language, but it's not excessive.
The characters are colorful to say the least and the story line
is attention-grabbing. I recommend this book for anyone who loves
Elmore Leonard's work.
Elmore Leonard is
also the author of "Get Shorty" and "Out of Sight".
Campbell
Scott's performance is what makes this book so hypnotic. His deep
flowing voice adds to the story line and brings the characters'
personalities to life. His other work includes "Dying Young",
"Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle", and he also co-directed
and starred in "Hamlet". |
