Blue Twilight
A Rachel
Porter Mystery
By Jessica Speart
Rachel Porter
is an agent for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. It is her job
to protect endangered species, even small things like butterflies.
Most people don't think of butterflies as being important. Yet the
number of butterflies is a bellwether for the ecology of any region.
So, when she was assigned to go check out the guy chasing butterflies
in a National Park, even Rachel didn't think it was very important.
However, it wasn't as simple a case
as she thought. The guy was not just taking butterflies; he was
catching rare and endangered species of butterflies. He was also
breeding them to sell to collectors. This was escalating into something
Rachel felt was worth pursuing. However, since she was on probation
after a courier was killed in a sting operation because she got
there just before Rachel did, she couldn't tell her superiors what
she was doing.
When Rachel found out Mitch Aikens was also
in contact with major collectors and selling to the primary collector,
a man known only as Horus, she decided to turn Mitch into an informant.
There was no use going after Aikens when they were bigger fish to
be had. However, she hadn't planned on people going missing. A consultant
for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service had disappeared while looking
for a rare butterfly. Rachel went to find him.
However, in Mendocino, people turned
pale when she mentioned the name of Horus. Was this man so dangerous
that Professor Harmon could have been killed to keep him from completing
his mission?
Blue Twilight is a spine tingling
adventure into the world of butterfly collecting and conservation.
The end is totally unexpected, nothing you would have seen coming.
This one is a joy for any mystery lover. Pick up a copy and enjoy!
