Dead
Heat
By Caroline Carver
Georgia
Parrish is a book reprehensive who has returned to Nulgarra , Australia,
to attend the funeral of her beloved grandfather. Nulgarra is in
Northern Queensland and is a place that Georgia is more than anxious
to leave.
On her
flight home, Georgia's plane crashes, and a young Chinese woman
dies in her arms. The pilot, a close childhood friend, is seriously
injured. Was the crash a result of pilot error, or did someone tamper
with the plane? If there was tampering, who was the intended victim:
Georgia, the pilot, or the lovely Chinese woman and her unfriendly
traveling companion? Or could it have been the man who missed the
flight?
As
the story progresses, Georgia finds herself searching for answers
from many sources, inlcuding a prestigious healing center, then
a detention center for illegal immigrants. She ventures through
crocodile infested waters and back again.
The
book is filled with information about Australia. Sometimes the language
is a bit confusing; however, after taking the words in context with
the sentences, I was generally able to carry on and enjoy the book.
Caroline
Carver does a wonderful job of setting the atmosphere for Australia
in the summertime.Although I was reading this book in below freezing
weather, I could feel the heat and mosquitoes buzzing. |
