Double Shot
Goldy Bear Culinary Mysteries
By Diane Mott Davidson
Read by Barbara Rosenblat

Goldy Schulz returns along with detective husband, Tom, best friend Marla, son Arch, employee Julian, and ex-husband The Jerk. Goldy is first the victim and later the suspect in this mystery. When opening the Roundhouse, her new catering building, Goldy is physically attacked, her equipment unplugged and her food ruined. Carrying a gun, Goldy clumsily searches the building and shoots a hole in the floor. Marla, Arch, and Julian come to Goldy's aid and save the luncheon. And it's there that Goldy sees the person she thinks wants to sabotage her business'The Jerk. The Jerk was released from prison early, and it looks like he's back to his old ways. Later The Jerk is found dead at his house and Tom finds Goldy's gun at the scene. Now Goldy is suspected of giving a double shot to her ex-husband. It's a case too close to home, so Tom has to take a break from the department until the case is resolved. Arch goes through the grief process, which means blaming Goldy at one point. Goldy continues with her catering and Marla lends a hand in finding the killer.

I've missed Goldy. I'm so glad she's back. With "Double Shot" readers can expect a storyline that surpasses Davidson's previous mysteries. Big changes are made in the series and it looks like there's more to come. I, for one, am thrilled! Expect "Double Shot" to put this culinary mystery series back on the best seller list; the recipes are mouth-watering, the mystery complex, the dialogue witty, the characters original, and the Schulz gang ever changing. I can't wait till the next installment.

The audio version of "Double Shot" is narrated by Barbara Rosenblat's one of my favorite audio book readers. Ever since the first "culinary mystery" I've identified her with Goldy and Diane Mott Davidson. Once again Rosenblat does superb job of bringing Goldy and the culinary gang to life. The audio version is lengthy and turning it off between listens is extremely difficult - it's that absorbing. Play it loud and share the mystery!
