Hear No Evil
By James Grippando
Performed by Campell Scott

    "My husband was murdered."

Lindsey Hart shares her story. Ten weeks ago at Guantanamo Bay Naval base, military officer Oscar Pintado was shot once in the head. So, why is his widow talking to a criminal defense lawyer in Miami? The military suspects her of killing him. Still, why Jack Swyteck? Jack thinks it is his reputation. Lindsey sets him straight.

"My husband was the father of your child."

Lindsey Hart wants a lawyer committed to her defense. Who better than the biological father of her adopted son, Brian. Jack is not convinced until he sees a picture. The picture commits him all right - commits him to what is best for the son he has never met.

Jack begins with a NCIS report filled with blacked-out sections and follows it up with a trip to Cuba. He quickly discovers the military isn't the only power he's up against. Life becomes dangerous, once again, for one of Miami's best lawyers.

Hear No Evil is military drama at its best as witnesses reveal one shocking revelation after another and Jack is faced with one twist after another outside the courtroom. Grippando is a remarkable writer. His suspenseful writing style, tragic characters and sadistic villains engage readers until the very end. Those who enjoy courtroom drama, whether military or civilian, will enjoy Hear No Evil.

Actor Campell Scott narrates the audio book version. His work includes The Spanish Prisoner, Longtime Companion, Dying Young, Singles and Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle. In narrating the storyline, Scott's voice is fixed -- as close to unemotional as a reader can get, but when speaking for the characters, his voice intensifies, expressing their moods and emotions. Although the abridge version is mature in content, it isn't explicit. Highly recommended.
