Had To Be You
By Jill Churchill
Siblings
Robert and Lily Brewster have seen better times. Once used to the
privileges afforded the wealthy, they are now reduced to doing odd
jobs in depression area Voorburg-on-Hudson, New York. One such outing
finds them filling in at a neighboring nursing home for a sick nurse.
When the nursing home's surliest resident is murdered, Lily's curiosity
is aroused. She sets out to discover who would kill an old man everyone
expected to die that very day. Ms. Churchill has created a likable
cast of characters in Robert and Lily Brewster and Chief of Police
Walker. The town of Voorburg-on-Hudson also has a starring role.
If
you're looking for a page-turner mystery that will grab you from
the first chapter and keep you guessing right up to the unveiling
of the killer, It had To Be You might not be what you're looking
for. However, if you don't mind a pleasant book that meanders along
giving you a rather charming peek into the lifestyle of another
era, then you will no doubt thoroughly enjoy Ms. Churchill's book.
The
book is full of passages that added nothing to the mystery. More
than once I found myself thinking that the mystery aspect of the
book was an afterthought. The mystery was simple and easily solved
early in the book. Nevertheless, It Had To Be You is a
pleasant read. I would not be averse to reading other books in the
series. |
