A Mourning in Autumn
By Harker Moore

Has a modern day Jack the Ripper returned? In this second book of Harker Moore's, Japanese-American NYPD lieutenant James Sakura once again finds himself pitted against a serial killer. This one is not only a killer but someone who enjoys mutilation and other vile acts against his victims. This graphic tale intertwines the story of Lt. Sakura and his Japanese beliefs with the serial killer's gruesome acts. Will the clues that the killer leaves with the bodies help Lt. Sakura catch him?

The story also draws in Sakura's blind wife, Hanae, as well as the lives of several people who work with him and are trying to help him solve this case. Who will be left unharmed? Who will fall victim to the splintered mind of the killer? Reporter Zoe Kahn takes her own chances, helping to lure the killer in. Hanae is drawn in using her heightened senses and instinct to try to help James. She is also trying to heal the wounds left on her and her marriage by a previous attack by a killer. No one in Lt. Sakura's life will be left untouched in some way.

This book will keep you turning the pages and wanting to know who the murderer is. The author is very clever, and from moment to moment he has you thinking you are being led to the killer's identity, only to lead you away again. There are very descriptive and graphic situations in this book. The end will surprise you, and the twists and turns will keep you captivated. Is "Jack" ever found out? It might be better to read "A Mourning in Autumn" in the daytime, with the lights on.
