Smoke Screen
By Kyle Mills

Trevor Barnett is the grandson of one of the founders of Terra, a giant corporation whose main product is tobacco and snack foods. He doesn't have any say in the running of the business, though. While his father is chief legal counsel for Terra, Trevor is mired in the history department, computerizing the files of the company's history, including the research.

But Trevor is happy not to be on the board. He wouldn't even work for the company if it weren't for his grandfather's will. The old man left him a trust fund of stocks that paid him a monthly dividend, but it was his only as long as he worked for the company. With all the lawsuits hitting big tobacco, his trust hadn't paid him anything for the last three years.

Trevor decided to revise the report on the Montana lawsuit and maybe he would be fired. He didn't care if he did. So he filed his report in one sentence. Instead of getting fired, he got the attention of the company CEO, then he got promoted and thrust into the limelight as company spokesman. But when he began to be shot at, he wanted out.

Trevor felt the best thing for the company would be to get rid of the lawsuits. The board agreed. Someone inside the company did not, however. But who would want the company to go under? Trevor has to find out before he winds up dead. Maybe, with the help of Ann, he will succeed.

Smoke Screen is a long book, but well worth your time. It begins slowly, but it soon picks up speed. By the time you find out "who done it," you'll have spent thirteen hours deeply involved in this thriller. The performance of L. J. Ganser makes it even better. Pick up Smoke Screen and enjoy.
