A Molly Doyle Mystery, No. 2
By Elaine Flinn

Molly Doyle fled to Carmel, California when her husband and his lover decided that faking period antiques was more lucrative than selling the real ones. In Carmel she takes over the failing antique store, Treasures, for Max Roman, her boss who is located in San Francisco.

While attending the Carmel Antique Show, she witnesses the death of a fellow antique shop owner, Trudy Collins. Kenneth Randall, Carmel's chief of police is called in and rules it a homicide.

Just as Molly is becoming settled in her new life, she is visited by her sister, Carrie. They don't get along--haven't seen each other in 15 years. Their father was sent to prison for fencing jewelry. Carrie stole a "hot" bracelet from him, which caused the police to trace it to him, leading to his arrest. Carrie brought with her, her 12-year-old daughter, Emma. Acting true to her character, Carrie abandons Emma to Molly's care without her permission or knowledge. Emma is 12 years old going on 30, and adds pleasure and fulfillment to Molly's life.

With Kenneth Randall and Dan Lucero, the district attorney for Monterey County, Molly tries to discover the reason for Trudy's murder and finds herself involved with an international ring smuggling illegal immigrants in containers camouflaged with fake antique reproductions.

This is a well-plotted, fast moving story with a fascinating insight into the world of antique trading. The character of Molly is one to love, and her connection with her niece, Emma, is a delight to read. As for Emma, who wouldn't love to have her for a niece? The story moves at a fast pace, keeping the reader intrigued and eager to turn the page to catch the next development.

A book to be enjoyed...hopefully there will be more Molly Doyle adventures in the near future....
