Wash and Wear
Ed McAvoy Mystery Series, No. 4
By Bill Stackhouse

”Wash and Wear” is the fourth installment of Mr. Stackhouse's Ed McAvoy Mystery Series. McAvoy is seen in a slightly different role after having his leg shattered. He accepts the Police Chief position in the small town of Peekamouse Heights in the Catskill Mountains of New York. McAvoy is forced to solve a suspicious murder mystery which is seemingly similar to mob hits. McAvoy attempts to find the killers before another person is killed.

Having never read any of the other McAvoy books, this reader is drawn to finding the first three and sitting down and thoroughly enjoying them, as this reader did with this one. Even not knowing McAvoy's history from Mr. Stackhouse's previous novels, the reader does not feel lost. The characterization of Ed McAvoy is detailed and the reader is provided some history on McAvoy, just in case the reader picks up this book out of series. The small town environment is well described and gives the feeling that McAvoy is certainly much more used to being in a big city environment when it comes to solving crimes.
