The Barbara Michaels CD Audio Treasury
Other Worlds and The Dancing Floor

by Barbara Michaels
Read by Barbara Rosenblat

HarperAudio's Barbara Michaels CD Audio Treasury gives audio listeners two of Michaels' most popular books. Barbara Rosenblatt's readings are a bit different from how I perceived the books. Rosenblatt brings out more of the humor in Michaels' work. And the suspense in The Dancing Floor seems less so than I first thought.

In The Dancing Floor, Heather Tradescant climbs through the hedges of a 17th century house called the Troytan House. Once she is discovered and her wounds doctored, Heather quickly becomes part of the family, which strikes her as quite odd, but maybe not as odd as the local businesses playing on the old local witch fable. Heather finds there is something odd about the Troytan property, too. Curiosity gets the better of her after hearing a "dancing floor" comment by a cleaning girl. Heather gets to know each of the members in the family; tries to get to know the property better; and ends up fighting for her life as well as others. It's quite a suspenseful adventure. The reading by Rosenblatt makes it even more interesting.

How would you react if you walked into a club and found the most intelligent and infamous as Harry Houdini, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and Dr. Nandor Fodor swapping stories? Sit down and shut up would be my response. And that's just what I did when Other Worlds began. Listeners are first entertained by paranormal stories followed by the trio of sleuths trying to solve or debunk, if you will, the paranormal stories. In their company is a lady prepared to out-sleuth them all, but will she? Listeners will find just as each story has its own unique spin; each main character in the trio has a distinct personality. Other Worlds is a small collection of short stories masterfully blended into one complex, brain-teasing tale.
