Black Lily
Have No Mercy III
by Kam Ruble
Black Lily: Have No Mercy III is an emotionally painful story that draws you in even deeper
because of the way the material is presented. Told from two distinct perspectives, the
narrator and Charley, the author leads you logically through the train wreck of Charley's
life. The narration is straight-forward and clinical in the description of Charley's childhood
and the effects of his abandonment and abuse throughout his life. You can almost hear
the voice of Keith David (City Confidential) reciting the facts as you watch the scenes
develop before you; then Charley speaks and you watch the drama unfold.
Henry James said the bottom line for fiction is that it be interesting. This book is
extraordinarily interesting with Charley grieving down the path of gullibility and self-destruction
at the hands of someone he loves. The outcome is given on the first page but you will
keep turning them to find out why. |
