Darkness Within

In The Darkness Within, Angelica Hart has written a fast-paced mystery that has
everything you could possibly want in a good story: mind control, mad scientists, romance,
gypsies, and supernatural beings. The tale revolves around private detective Brie (Gabriella)
Tyler's investigation of several teenage runaways who somehow have a connection with her
own past that she cannot remember. Her efforts put her in the path of Jake Marlo, who
is trying to find his missing niece. Independent and feisty, Tyler resists Marlo's worry
over her safety and his offers to help. She also resists his growing romantic attention.
However, Marlo is the catalyst that helps Tyler solve her own personal riddles and helps
her find out what has happened to the teenagers she has been trying so desperately to find.
Driving this whole plot is the age-old struggle between good and evil. It is played
out among people of faith and is aided and abetted by angels and demons. Though one could
say that The Darkness Within is a Christian novel, it is not overtly so, and it
definitely is not preachy. The spiritual and faith changes within the story come from
believable personal experience and motivation. Even the paranormal beings are characters
painted as vividly as any of the other mortal players in this tale.
I found The Darkness Within to be a good read, with unexpected plot twists and
a satisfying ending. This is but one of nine books by Angelica Hart (romance, thrillers,
and mysteries), with three more thrillers in the works. She has a great gift for storytelling,
and I would definitely like to see more. |
