Death
and the Icebox
A
Trudy Roundtree Mystery
By
Linda Berry
Trudy
Roundtree is Ogeechee Georgia's Modern Millie. Trudy is an Ogeechee
police officer. Her cousin, Henry Huckabee (Hen), is the Chief.
When Hen opens his mouth he sounds like a chauvinist redneck, but
one wonders if it's all a show since Trudy tells readers he loves
it when people underestimate him. Generally things are quiet in
Ogeechee, but Hen and Trudy's past cases prove that life in this
conservative town of three thousand, four hundred and twelve can
get exciting.
In
this mystery, Trudy goes to homicide school. When a friend stumbles
across a Frigidaire with a body inside, Trudy has a chance to try
out her new skills. Hen lets Trudy work the scene and the case,
but adds his wit and wisdom along the way. The history of the victim
has Trudy digging through annuals of Ogeechee's history. Is one
of their local yokel's a murderer?
Trudy
Roundtree is a refreshing character. The author uses humor and common
sense to express Trudy's feminist opinion. Death and the Icebox
is an investigative whodunit. Readers will enjoy Trudy's humor as
they following her every step in the case. Readers who like cozy
mysteries or mild police procedurals will enjoy Death
and The Hubcap, Death
and the Easter Bunny, and Death
and the Icebox. The next in series, Death
and the Walking Stick
is out now. Readers can also find an Ogeechee short story in
the anthology "The Last Noel." If you haven't discovered
The Trudy Roundtree series now's the time.
