I Dreamed I Married Perry Mason

By Susan Kandel

After leaving her husband, CeCe Caruso has made her living by writing biographies of mystery writers. Her current book is going to be about Erle Stanley Gardner. The only problem is that she is stuck. CeCe has found out many details about Gardner, but none that will humanize him to her readers. Then, CeCe stikes gold. She finds out that Gardner began taking on "hopeless" cases. He tried to get these men acquitted if he thinks they are innocent. As CeCe is looking through documents, she finds a note from Joseph Albacco that was sent in 1958 but was misfiled. Joseph had been accused of killing his wife. CeCe meets Joseph and decides he is innocent and she wants to solve this crime. Unfortunately, what CeCe didn't count on was a killer willing to do anything to keep the past buried.

I Dreamed I Married Perry Mason is a very funny book with great characters. CeCe has a wonderful perspective and a unique approach to life, which makes her a breath of fresh air. The story zipped along and before I knew it, the puzzle was solved without me guessing the ending in the slightest. Susan Kandel has a very long series ahead of her if she decides to keep writing.
