Jackpot Blood
A Nick Herald genealogical mystery

by Jimmy Fox

This is the third Nick Herald mystery I have read. As a genealogist myself, I applaud Jimmy Fox's thorough research. He leaves you wondering where the facts leave off and the fiction begins. Even after completing the book, you have no idea about that. His fiction is as authentic as his facts.

Jackpot Blood features many of the same characters as the first two books in this series: Deadly Pedigree and Lineages, but it has a very different flavor to it. The first two books are in major Louisiana cities, but this one takes place in a small town where the majority of the population is made up of Native Americans.

When the local sawmill closes its operation, the people are faced with moving to the big city or figuring out some way of bringing in new revenues. Nick is soon hired to help the Katogoula Indians prove their ancestry to the government so they can open up a huge casino.

With some dead bodies, drugs, crooked politicians, power struggles and threats-even to Nick Herald himself-is it worth the effort? And how far will the government go to continue the great cover-up, and where will the Indians stop to get what they feel is legally theirs?

Highly educational, entertaining, and well worth the time spent in reading it. Very highly recommended. I can hardly wait for the next book in this series.
