Knit One, Kill Two
by Maggie Sefton
Good home cooking and knitting
are two particularly cozy activities, and here is a mystery revolving
around both! Accountant Kelly Flynn enjoys her high-powered life in
Washington but when her beloved aunt dies she has to return home to
Colorado. Aunt Helen appears at first to be the victim of a surprised
burglar, but soon more evidence emerges and it looks as though there
was something more sinister afoot. Worse still, just before her death
Helen was borrowing money and now Kelly has a huge debt to settle.
Putting her life on hold, Kelly moves into her aunt's home whilst
across the road, Helen's original farmhouse home is now a thriving
knitting shop called House of Lambspun. Maybe the owner and members
of her knitting club can lend a hand with the detection?
I love these cozies, and this
is an enjoyable tale that made this non-knitter want to grab some
needles and have a go. There is a recipe to bake, and a knitting
pattern to make up, too, but the story is entertaining with a good
plot, and I certainly didn't guess it all. This is a good evocation
of a country village, although I did feel that the regulars at the
shop were a bit too eager to become Kelly's friends--almost as if
she was a long-lost relation! Although this is very much a self-contained
story, there are enough extra plot strands to make a second book
inevitable, and also, if you too enjoy the tale, to anticipate what
happens next in Fort Connor.
