Pretty
Poison
A Gardening Mystery
by Joyce and Jim Lavene
Peggy
Lee is a botanist and she owns The Potting Shed. On a particular
morning, Peggy was running late and she runs her bike into a car
coming out of the parking lot. No one is injured and Peggy takes
notice of a man for the first time in the two years since her husband
died. Soon after giving a speech at the coffee shop, Peggy is finally
on her way to open up her shop for the day. Before she opens the
doors for the day, she notices a garden tool out of place, looking
closer she notices a body lying in the plants. After calling the
police, Peggy just sits and waits. She does not know how a dead
body could be in her flower shop. However, when the detectives ask
her if she knows who it is she looks at the face and recognizes
it as one of the wealthiest men in town. Now he is dead in her flower
shop with no one knowing how he ended up there. The detectives want
to pen this murder on the homeless man Peggy helps. However, Peggy
does not believe he did it so she begins investigating on her own.
With
her homeless friend Mr. Cheever, being charged with murder Peggy
knows she has to search harder for the person who did it. She suspects
it was one of the many women he was seeing. Soon she is working
hard to prove that her friend is innocent. However, Peggy's investigation
is making some one very uncomfortable and another mystery has her
involved when someone is poisoned by a plant and dies. The online
chess partner seems to know more than he should.
Let
us not forget the man who Peggy ran into the side of his car. He
will come in handy as Peggy finds a Great Dane that follows her
around. When she goes in search of the home of an old veterinarian
whom she met a couple of time she finds Steve living there instead.
He is a Vet. He offers to help Peggy with the Dane, and he wants
to start dating her. Although it has been two years since her husband's
death, Peggy is not sure if she is ready for a relationship, even
if Steve is the first man to make her think about a relationship
again.
Pretty
Poison is a wonderfully written story that is sure to keep
any reader entertained. Each character in this book seems to be
jumping out of the pages as the mystery is solved. This is one book
you will just not be able to put down.
