Red Tide
Frank Coors series, No. 4
by G.M.Ford
Someone has sprayed ebola virus into a Seattle bus tunnel, killing more than 100 people.
Officials attempt to cover up the disaster. But Frank Corso, a disgraced journalist and
successful novelist, is determined to seek out the true story by going into Seattle's
underground city to pursue the perpetrators. The terrorists are amateurs recruited by
a mastermind who is seeking revenge for the Dow Chemical spill years ago in India, which
killed thousands and left survivors with horrible health problems. The authorities receive
a note warning that the next round of virus will be airborne in 30 hours and will live
for 30 days. The virus is being sprayed in a cruise ship, infecting passengers from all
over the world. Therefore it will spread throughout the world, causing the death of every
human being on the planet. Corso teams with Seattle cop Charly Hart, and races against time
to learn the identity of the terrorists and to stop them.
This is a timely story and a reminder of what could happen in this time climate. The
pace is tense and fast. It is well plotted and full of twists and turns. The characters
are fully drawn and likeable. The descriptions of the victims are horrifying and graphic.
The trip of Corso through the old underground city of Seattle is a picture of the town
as it was before it was covered by the new city. The author gives some political observations
about freedom in America and American foreign policy. It is refreshing to find the terrorists
are not Arabs, but from an entirely different group. |
