Jane Run
A
Jane Yeats mystery
By
Liz Brady
True
crime writer Jane Yeats has suffered for years from the murder of
her lover and partner, Pete. Her only consolation is that the serial
killer, Willie Shortt, responsible for his death is imprisoned.
Shortt confesses that he did not kill Pete; that he had lied. Shortly
thereafter Willie is assassinated by a fellow inmate, and DNA proves
that he did not commit Pete's murder.
Police
officials refuse to admit their mistake. So Jane determines to find
the real killer and make him pay for his crime. An ex-con tells
Jane that Willie had falsely confessed and had been set up for his
assassination with the collusion of the prison guards. With the
assistance of her cowboy dressing, bar owning mother, a plus sized
lesbian and a fellow crime writer, Jane uncovers corruption in the
police force, and works against them to find the real killer and
determine to take justice in her own hands.
Jane
is a sympathetic character fighting against her own feelings to
find justice. Her relationships with those she works with are strong.
The characterizations of her companions are well done. The sense
of time and place in Toronto is successfully evoked. The plot is
well constructed and well written. Jane's pursuit of the truth is
suspenseful as well as entertaining.
