The Stiff and the Dead

by Lori Avocato

Pauline Sokolis is a nurse turned medical insurance fraud investigator. Her last case almost got her killed. Surely, this new one won't be so rough. A bunch of senior citizens in a prescription fraud case; how dangerous can that be?

Her uncle's good friend, Mr. Wisnowski, is one of two suspects. Make that her uncle's dead friend. One suspect down, one to go. See how quickly Pauline is solving this case? But Uncle Walt smells a rat, and now Pauline finds herself investigating a murder. The other suspect is Sophie Banko, a little old lady who spends her time at the senior center. To get the goods on Sophie, Pauline goes undercover. By day, she is a nurse at the nearby clinic that all of the seniors frequent. By night she is a little old lady named Peggy.

Soon Pauline determines that Sophie is smack dab in the middle of an illegal Viagra ring. Now Pauline must discover who Sophie's accomplices are and obtain proof. Things begin to heat up when one of her new suspects is murdered. Adding more heat, mystery man, Jagger, becomes involved in the case as well.

Beaus abound in this book. There's the nice guy Nick, and Jagger the hottie. Even Peggy has an aging Lothario after her!

This is the second in a new series that is very reminiscent of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. The author has talent and I look forward to watching this series develop.
