To the Power of Three

by Laura Lippman
Read by Linda Emond

Laura Lippman's latest novel delves into the emotional aftermath of a school shooting. Kat, Josie and Perri have known each since the third grade. Their relationships have never wavered until their senior year. Something has shattered this devoted triangle and after the shooting the answers are even more elusive. Josie is the only one who can explain the deadly shooting, but her answers aren't adding up. She's evasive and sometimes frightened.

Homicide Sgt. Harold Lenhardt works the tragic case. He knows Josie's holding back and tries to get through to her. When that doesn't work, he addresses other leads. All involved can't imagine what could be so detrimental to destroy the lives of these three girls, and now their families. It's a difficult case needing a lot of patience.

This isn't your typical school-shooting novel. Lippman combines suspense with emotional tragedy. Everything is as it seems and yet it isn't. The characters are strong, touching, and sometimes irritating. The various points-of-view bring the novel to life. And though Linda Emond is the sole narrator of this audio book version, she does an excellent job of getting each character's part across and keeping the listener involved.
