Wrapped Up in Crosswords
Rosco Polycrates and Belle Graham Series
by Nero Blanc
In Wrapped up in Crosswords, Santa comes to Newcastle, Massachusetts, but there
are three of them, and they are "naughty" rather than nice. Three prisoners escape from
a Boston jail and don Santa costumes as disguises. Rosco, Al Lever and Abe Jones are
also dressed up like Santa for their annual pick-up of toys for needy children. Unfortunately,
the police stop the good guys while the "bad" Santas rob a gun shop and try to make a run
for freedom. Meanwhile, the crescendo of activity leading to Christmas continues, despite
the escaped convicts. Belle Graham is convinced that Rosco plans to buy her two love birds,
and she does everything she can behind his back to prevent this. After two of the "bad" Santas
are are back behind bars, the remaining one crashes a neighborhood "Secret Santa" party,
but is apprehended by the four-legged guests.
Wrapped up in Crosswords is another delightful addition to the Rosco Polycrates
and Belle Graham series. Belle and Rosco are pitted against the escaped convicts while
struggling with the larger issue of what to give each other for Christmas. In this book,
the secondary characters include the animal residents of the town, who are given the ability
to communicate with each other, adding to the antics in this whodunit. This novel is an
entertaining read for lovers of cozy mysteries and is "wrapped" in holiday cheer. |
