Beach Road
by James Patterson, Peter de Jonge
Read by Billy Baldwin, featuring Orlagh Cassidy, Erik Bergmann, Rodney Gardiner,
Rayme Cornell, Charles Turner, and Richard Ferrone
Patterson brings readers another striking tale straight out of the Hamptons. Tom Dunleavy
holds tight to his days as a professional basketball player, although he's now an attorney.
During a game of hoops among local youths, a gun is pulled and threats are made. Dante Halleyville,
a future black basketball star, is in the center of it. When he's arrested for the murders
of three white local boys, Tom comes to his rescue. Tom knows Dante's close relationship
with his grandmother is real and knows Dante isn't capable of murder. But can he convince a
jury? He turns to an old flame who hates him as much as she had once loved him. Kate Castello
likes Dante and his grandmother. She works with Tom to prove the young man's innocence.
She also gets to know Tom as an attorney, instead of the tactless youth with pathetic
breakup skills she remembers.
Beach Road has everything a suspenseful novel needs to be memorable: riveting
scenes, persuasive misleads, compelling characters, and it all leads up to an unexpected,
unforgettable conclusion. It will blow you away.
The one thing I liked most about this audio version was the cast of readers. They heighten
the intensity of the story line and their characters. With the cast narrating their points
of views and the aptly timed music, the story plays out like a movie for the big screen.
Great narration! Great listen! |
