Blood Hunt
by Ian Rankin
Gordon Reeves, a former Special Forces soldier, has a survival camp for training weekend
warriors and potential bodyguards in a remote part of Scotland. He receives word that his
freelance journalist brother Jim, with whom he hasn't been close for years, has shot himself.
Reeves travels to California to claim his body. There, a friend of Jim informs Gordon that
he doesn't believe the suicide report. Gordon undertakes trying to determine the truth
and suspects that Jim was murdered by Co-World Chemical, because the investigation Jim was
working on involving the chemical company would reveal that the company was linked to a
disease that could eventually harm millions worldwide. His pursuit of the facts in the
case that pits him against the chemical conglomerate also involves him in a cat-and-mouse
game with Jay, a deranged former military colleague.
This book has been reprinted from a 10-year-old novel written as Jack Harvey. It is a stand
alone, which does not feature the John Rebus of his acclaimed series. It is interesting
to compare this with his more recent work. The story can still be tied in with today's
multinational big business and its involvement with science. The story is action packed,
fast-moving and filled with suspense. The action between Gordon and Jay is chilling and
graphic. The story will capture the reader's attention from start to finish. |
