Born in Death
Eve Dallas series #23
by J. D. Robb
Futuristic Homicide Detective Lieutenant Eve Dallas returns in another police procedural. This time, Eve has gotten
dragged into doing two things she’d rather not be involved in - giving her best friend, Mavis Freestone, a baby
shower and, even worse, coaching Mavis through childbirth. Investigating a murder would be far more pleasant, in
Eve’s opinion. Her husband, Roarke, who’d also been coerced into being a coach, concurred.
In the middle of a nightmare about many-armed, fang-toothed babies, Eve got a call to investigate a murder.
The victim, Natalie Copperfield, had been found by her flight-attendant sister, Palma, who’d come to visit. She
had been bound and had her mouth taped. Then, the killer had tortured her. He, or she, had then removed the tape
from her mouth before strangling her with the tie from her bathrobe.
To make matters worse, when Eve went to question Natalie’s fiancé, she found him dead. He had also been bound
and strangled, but not tortured. As at Natalie’s apartment, the data and communication system had been stolen.
Since the young couple worked for the same accounting firm, Eve was sure someone had something they’d kill to
hide.
On top of all this, Mavis’ very pregnant friend, Tandy Willowby, disappeared, just as her baby was due. Eve
must find a killer and Tandy in a very short time. To do that, she’ll need the help of her partner, Detective
Delia Peabody, husband Roarke, and anyone else in the department she can shake loose.
Born in Death is a thriller that will surprise you with the things people will do for money, and the
things the very rich think they should be allowed to do because they have money. This is J. D. Robb at her best.
Get Born in Death and enjoy a mystery with a twist at the end you won’t soon forget. |
