In Shirley Damsgaard's previous book Witch Way to Murder the reader was introduced to small town librarian Ophelia
Jensen and her grandmother Abby. Abby is a witch and she is encouraging Ophelia to learn to use and strengthen her skills.
Ophelia wants nothing of it after her close friend Brian was killed and tossed in a dumpster five years previously,
and her powers could do nothing to save him. Eventually she comes around and helps solve a local crime.
In her second book, Charmed to Death, Ophelia has become more comfortable with her talents, but is enraged
when a huge hog-farming operation wants to set up close to her grandmother Abby's farm. After arranging a protest,
Ophelia stumbles on a body that has died exactly like her friend Brian did years ago.
Abby's physic abilities warn her that the killer is close and plans to stop her any way he can. Returning character,
state investigator Henry Comacho, is back and once again wants to pin Ophelia with the murders. As Ophelia struggles to
solve the crime, the reader is treated to a glimpse of how her powers are evolving.
Once again Shirley Damsgaard has written a page turner. Although the book was a bit of a cozy compared to my normal
reading, I enjoyed the atmosphere and the developing characters in this book. A quick and satisfying read.
