Dead Boogie
Loon Lake Fishing Mystery, No. 7
by Victoria Houston
Life at Loon Lake is quiet in this Wisconsin town, except for the Loon Lake Country Music Fest.
Paul Osborne, retired dentist, is contemplating a pleasant evening in the company of Police
Chief Lew Ferris, his fishing teacher. Their plans are disrupted when Brian Jensen, Forest
Service ranger, stumbles upon an overturned car on a back country road. In the car are
three bodies; one is Peg Garmin, one of Loon Lake's more unorthodox citizens. With her are
two exotic dancers from the Thunder Bay resort. It is immediately apparent that the three
have been murdered. No one who knows the three can find any reason for their deaths, but
further investigation reveals Peg's previously unknown connection to the Garmins, one of
the wealthiest families in Chicago. There are long- buried secrets in that family and links
to insurance frauds that must be ascertained before the killer can be unmasked.
This is an entertaining mystery, set in the beautiful lake country of Wisconsin. The descriptions
of the setting bring the country close to the reader. The characters act and talk like
people you would meet in your own life. The plot is well constructed, holding the reader's
interest from the beginning. There is even instruction about fishing for the novice. Dead
Boogie is a quick read that will take you on a pleasant trip with enjoyable companions. |
