Desert
Run
Lena Jones Mystery, No 4
by Betty Webb
Scottsdale private investigator, Lena Jones, finds herself faced with a complicated murder
mystery when an Ethiopian caregiver begs for her help after he is charged with the murder
of a German POW escapee. Lena also experiences several changes in her personal life. Her
partner, Jimmy Siswan, is leaving Desert Investigations to marry his snobby fiancée and
her old captain is in Brooklyn. Will Lena be able to cope with the changes in her personal
life and solve the murder mystery before her client is sent to prison?
The way that the history is told is interesting and adds to the enjoyment. It seems
that the POW, following his escape from the camp, might have murdered a family on Christmas
night with his fellow escapees. Lena finds these facts while investigating his murder
and the motives of her client.
This reader was a bit disappointed, since Betty Webb's previous novels
were just a little bit better. The changes that Lena faces at times
take over from the main mystery investigation. What was interesting
about Desert Run is that it's based on true Arizona history.
