The Enemy of God

by Robert Daley

Father Frank Redmond falls off a rooftop in his Harlem parish neighborhood. The police want to rule it a suicide, but his childhood friend, Gabe Driscoll, wants to see it investigated and proven otherwise. Gabe is the Chief of Internal Affairs for the New York City Police department. When they attended school together, Frank and Gabe were also close to Andy and Earl, and back then swimming was the only thing they had on their minds. Andy is a Pulizter Prize winner and Earl is a city prosecutor with his eye on the mob and a future in politics. When Earl meets an untimely death, it leaves Gabe and Andy to investigate and find out what happened to Father Frank.

While they go back over every part of Frank's life, the puzzle doesn't quite fit together and they can find no reason he'd commit suicide. While searching for the answers, it's only when they look closer to home that they discover the truth. This was an interesting read with a look into the life of a man who had to choose between right and wrong. Frank lived a remarkable and well-traveled life only to give in to the weakness that comes with being a human being. Was it suicide or was it murder? What or who is The Enemy of God?
