False Prophet
Decker/Lazarus Series, No. 5
by Faye Kellerman
What is LAPD Detective Peter Decker supposed to do when a well-to-do spa owner, Lilah Brecht,
is found beaten, robbed, and raped in her own home? He, of course, is supposed to investigate
the crimes. But what can he do when Lilah alleges that she now has psychic powers and can
tell when things are going to go wrong for herself and maybe even for him? How can he
keep his pregnant wife, Rina, safe from Lilah's heated personality?
Readers of the Decker/Lazarus series need to be aware that this is a reissue. For new
fans of Ms. Kellerman's, the series needs to be read in order for readers to get a true
appreciation of Peter's and Rina's characters. With that being said, False Prophet is
another great example of Ms. Kellerman's talent as a mystery writer. Lilah Brecht's characterization
alone is great in adding to the strange happenings around her life. The way that Lilah
goes from Miss Well-To-Do to an angry woman who seems to love provoking people, is amazing.
Other characters, especially the ones that work at the spa, add to the alleged mystery. |
