Hot Wired
A Bel Barrett Mystery
by Jane Isenberg
Just when professor Bel Barrett feels she can relax and enjoy her new husband and life
with her children, one of her former students writes a hate-filled review on a popular
college review site. Unfortunately for Bel Barrett, this student ends up dead and she's
the main suspect. Since she's a suspect, her professional and personal life are completely
disrupted. What did happen to this student and what will happen to Bel's life?
Jane Isenberg demonstrates that she has completed extensive research on the hip-hop
culture through the characters that she has created for Hot Wired. Because many
of the reviews on the website were created by rappers, such research was necessary to
create a real feeling about the characters. Bel Barrett's character is reminiscent of
Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum character in regard to her humor and way of handling
situations. Bel continues to have her close relationship with M&M's and her co-office owner,
Wendy, who helps Bel through the intense investigation.
Jane Isenberg continues to make her series about college professor Bel Barrett enjoyable
and does not seem to be losing steam. This reader is looking forward to reading more
about Bel, her obsession with M&M's and other investigations she winds up getting herself into. |
