Long Time Gone
J.P. Beaumont series #17
by J. A. Jance
J. A. Jance brings back J. P. Beaumont and has him attempting to solve a fifty-year-old cold case. Beau, as he is
affectionately known, is still trying to recover from the death of his partner, when he is assigned to solve this
murder after a nun starts recalling details while undergoing hypnotherapy. Meanwhile, Beau’s friend and former partner’s
ex-wife is found murdered, and Beau’s friend is the main suspect.
J. P. Beaumont’s character is one of the best out there in the genre of mystery series. The reader feels for Beau
while he does his job and deals with the problems that he is faced with, when his close friend and family members
become prime suspects. Ms. Jance does a fantastic job of incorporating the cold case with the current case, meaning
that supporting characters play roles in both cases. Not many authors can handle psychology correctly, but J. A. Jance
aces her descriptions of the nun’s hypnotherapy sessions.
Long Time Gone is appropriately suspenseful in the right places and the mystery adds a twist near the end
that the reader does not necessarily see coming. Long Time Gone is a great mystery read. |
