Jack Meter is a P. I. with a reputation for investigating the unusual. A man of means, he
accepts only those cases which intrigue him. Lambert Garner shows up at Jack's office.
A building which Garner owns has disappeared without a trace.
Garner has made his fortune in real estate. It is his practice to reach into his file
cabinet and randomly grab a folder. He then goes to the property listed in the file to
verify that the building is being appropriately maintained. This time the file folder
is empty. Checking his computer database, no record exists of that address. This was the
first of many buildings that Garner purchased and it holds great sentimental value. He
decides to drive over and view the property and worry about the paperwork later. When
he arrives at the location, the building is gone.
Jack is intrigued. He takes the case and drives out to have a look. According to Garner,
on one side of the building was a bank and on the other side there was a restaurant. Now
the bank and the restaurant are right next to each other. There's nothing between them,
not even an empty lot. The owners of the two business have no idea what Jack is referring
to when he asks about the Carlisle apartments.
Garner may be worried about his missing building, but Jack is concerned about the missing
tenants. So he sets out to discover who has stolen the building, where it is, and how
he can get it back.
Add in a universe-hopping double, a sexy co-investigator, and a houseful of cult members
and you have the recipe for a wild ride through parallel universes.
The second in a series, this is a stand-alone book. It would have been even more enjoyable
if I had read the previous book first. I look forward to reading more books by this new author.
