Run the Risk

by Scott Frost

In what promises to be a new thriller detective series, Scott Frost delivers a very real woman we can relate to. Alex Delilo is an LAPD homicide detective, as well as the single parent of a daughter named Lacey. In this first book Run the Risk we find Alex trying to come to terms with her parenting skills as Lacey ruins a beauty pageant with "save the earth" rants. Lacey has joined a group convinced the rest of the world is poisoning the planet with herbicides.

Unable to deal with Lacey's actions immediately, Alex finds herself on the scene of a murder at a flower store. By the time Alex tries to get in touch with her daughter, it appears Lacey has been kidnapped. Clues lead Alex to believe she is dealing with the possibility her daughter's disappearance has something to do with the flower store murder as well as the upcoming Rose Parade. As Alex tracks a former employee of the flower store, it leads to a main suspect who uses explosives to fight back. Her goal is to find Lacey's kidnapper and the bomber before the start of the parade.

Run the Risk is a riveting story and you will feel the force behind Alex as a mother first and as a first rate detective right down to the last page of this story. Alex is willing to risk her life to save her daughter and as many people as possible as she tracks this ruthless killer.
