Two young people, lounging on the beach, become the first victims as an Island of Paradise
becomes a blood bath of machete killings. What seems like a black rebellion is actually
something much more sinister and senseless.
Peter McDonald becomes a witness, and one can't help but cheer him on after he is forced
to deal with the killers. Peter is a hero of sorts, but it's Carrie Rose and her death
diary that seem to take the lead in the story line. Carrie Rose is a Murderer for Hire.
She's trying to sell her diary of murders -murders she and her husband committed. In their
most recent job, she joins up with an infamous serial killer. Sections of her diary are
highlighted throughout the deadly thriller.
Listeners know who the murderers are, they are just not sure who they are working for
or why. The outcome is quite surprising, not at all what I expected. The killing scenes
are violent and grotesque. The story line ranges from vulgar to bizarre. One certainly
can't accuse Patterson of soft-soaping the suspense now. My only issue was trying to follow
the story line. The plot seemed to get lost in the intensely detailed sex and killing
scenes. I had to back track at some points.
Intense, gross, colorful, at points vulgar, more sickening than any of his other titles.
Grisly murder scenes with adults, youth, animals, etc....
Lou Diamond Phillips narrates the audio book. His deep and methodical reading brings
out the darkness of this gruesome thriller tenfold.
