Second Hand Smoke
An Annie Seymour mystery #2
by Karen E Olson
Annie Seymour, a New Haven, Connecticut journalist, is at the scene of Prego, a cherished neighborhood Italian
restaurant which burned down. Its owner, Sal Amato, is missing and when a corpse is found in the burned rubble
it is believed to be Sal. Police determine the body to be that of Prego's hostess, Lee Ann Haywood. The autopsy
shows that LeeAnn was not killed by the fire but was shot to death. Her history of domestic violence with her
husband, Mickey, Prego's chef, leads to his arrest. Amato remains missing. Annie's father, Joe, a life long
friend of Amato, returns from Las Vegas where he manages a casino. He wants to help his missing friend. Annie
finds Amato's body just after he is shot to death. His murder looks like the mob is responsible. When Joe's
fingerprints are found at the murder scene, the police and the FBI suspect him. Annie sets out to clear her
father's name with the help of a marine biologist, private investigator, sexy Vinny DeLuca.
This is the fast moving story of a tough, savvy, young reporter whose search for the truth brings her in conflict
with people she grew up with. She must fight for the truth as an outsider in the very neighborhood in which she was
raised. The action between Annie and Vinnie is delightful to behold with Annie fighting against the lethal attraction
of Vinnie. She also has to fend off the opinionated and protective Italian mother of Vinnie. There are enough
twists and turns in the story to keep the reader in suspense.
A well written story which will keep the reader entertained for a few hours |
