Move over Carl Hiaasen and Tim Dorsey; there is a new writer on the Florida scene. He is gifted. He is funny, and he
is on a roll.
James O. Born made his debut with his previous book Walking Money. In this previous book, his character, Bill
Tasker, a Florida Department of Law Enforcement Agent, is forced to deal with the breakup of his marriage and almost
loses his job and his creditability when a bad FBI agent set out to frame him.
In Shock Wave, Bill Tasker returns. He still has not won back his wife's affections, and he is forced once
again to deal with the FBI, who are searching for someone trying to sell a stolen stinger missile
They mistakenly arrest Daniel Welles and then release him, after capturing a small-time Hillbilly arms dealer.
Case Closed.
However Bill Tasker is not so sure and insists that he must continue to investigate, much to the disgust of his
boss and the FBI. Perhaps a bad idea, it seems Welles is a bomb maker and is planning something really big, always
staying just a step ahead of Tasker.
The setting, the hot and sultry state of Florida, is well drawn in this book and the suspense, and constant action
keep things moving. Shock Wave is filled with quirky characters and some hilarious dialogue. I am looking forward
to James O. Born's next installment in this series.
