Shooting Gallery
An Art Lovers mystery #2
by Hailey Lind
Annie Kincaid is establishing a faux finishing business in San Francisco. She tries to lead an honest life after a
foray into the life of an art forger. Her grandfather is one of the best forgers in the business. Many of his
forgeries hang in famous museums, believed to be the originals. While attending a sculpture exhibition at a
prestigious art gallery Annie discovers the corpse of the sculpturer, Seamus McGraw, draped in a tree in the
gallery's garden. An old friend, Brian Boissevain, is accused of the murder and appeals to Annie to exonerate him.
In the meantime a Chagall painting is stolen from the nearby Brock Museum. Annie suspects the charismatic Michael
Collins, art thief. She is hired by Janice Hewitt to retrieve a sculpture taken from her by artist, Pascal. Annie
has trouble separating the forgeries and thefts while trying to clear her friend, Brian. She is thwarted by her
association with Collins, with her forger grandfather, and her lawyer mother, not to mention her landlord, wealthy
and mysterious Frank.
This is an amusing glimpse into the art world with its many eccentric characters. Annie is a fascinating person,
torn between her desire for a successful foray into an honest line of work and her talent as a forger. Her
relationships with her mother, Michael Collins, and Frank are all part of her character. The supporting
characters are well developed. This plot is an intriguing one, guaranteed to hold the reader's interest.
