Three Strikes and You’re Dead
Murder, She Wrote #26
by Jessica Fletcher and Donald Bain
Reading Three Strikes and You’re Dead by Jessica Fletcher and Donald Bain is more fun than watching the
T.V. series. The one difference is the reader has the opportunity to view the clues at the same time as Jessica
discovers them. It actually feels like you are part of the process. The reader thinks, "I can beat her to the
punch". Wrong. Super sleuthing through the pages, you gain more insight into the crime then watching the
series, but Jessica has the inside track to solving the mystery as always. Television removes many of the
elements that help you put the story together so reading it does give it more punch.
The mystery begins with Jessica’s visit to Judge Jack and Meg Duffy’s home in Arizona. Invited to their foster
son, Ty Ramos’s baseball game, she goes to work gathering background information about the team’s owner, Harrison
Bennett and his son, Junior. Junior and Ty are bitter rivals and Bennett resents his ability because it
overshadows his own son’s success. After Ty hits the winning run, tension builds between Ty and Harrison. The
morning after the game, Junior Bennett is found dead. Ty becomes an immediate suspect.
Jessica goes along for the ride and naturally becomes the key investigator in solving the crime. The reader
tags along and acts as co-pilot through all its twists and turns.
If you like Jessica Fletcher and enjoyed her television series, you will like the book. It’s fun to read, the
pace is fast, and the characters interesting. Discovering clues on every page, I looked forward to solving the
mystery along with Jessica. And, let’s face it, who doesn’t like baseball. |
