The Tooth of Time
A Maxie and Stretch Mystery #2
by Sue Henry
They're on the road again! Middle-aged widow Maxie McNabb, and her miniature dachshund, Stretch,
have once again set out in their "Mini-Winnie" RV, and the sleepy little town of Taos, NM
will never forget them. Maxie's overabundance of curiosity and kindness lead them into an
adventure that will have you jumping pages ahead to see if they're okay.
Maxie decides to learn weaving from a local instructor, and discovers that the vivid colors
of the southwest rugs and tapestries are not the only things woven when she is caught in
a web of death and deceit. She attempts to help a mysterious middle-aged divorcee, who
has been accused of a suicide attempt, and stumbles into more than she bargained for when
a man turns up dead and the woman disappears. Who is this woman who enters her life then
slips away, leaving mayhem behind? After a chance meeting with an old friend and a new
friendship with the owner of a gallery, Maxie helps the detective make a startling discovery,
but not before she's threatened with another devastating loss.
Maxie's character is so real that you feel she could be you! The author weaves
a tale of intrigue and softens your heart with affection for Stretch. Her descriptions of
events and places make you feel you are there; you can imagine the sights, smells and sounds
of this beautiful pueblo community. She intertwines historical facts with her mystery,
and leaves you wondering if those places are real or fictional.
I read the book in a day and was thoroughly drawn into the story line, and amazed at its
twists and turns. Maxie's "moxie" makes me want to buy my own RV and strike out with my
own two teenie-weenie dogs for adventure! |
