To Skin A Cat #3
A Joe Box Mystery
by John Laurence Robinson
John Laurence Robinson is one of the most gifted writers that I have had the pleasure of reviewing. He is
deserving of being noticed so much more than he is, especially if you like a good thriller. This one has a very
gripping storyline that is peppered with intrigue and skillful deductions all pointing to a very massive plot to
undo core values and have the perpetrator of the nefarious scheme reap millions for a porn loaded, debauched,
wealth making business. This huge Porn Shop, PornUtiopia, is to be known as The World's Largest and Best, and is
about ready to open for business in the small Midwestern town where it is being built; a town that was a lazy-hazy
happy place until the devil of a proprietor came into town with his money, ability to buy the establishment of law
enforcement, and his ideas.
I live in the state that is probably most notorious for the Mustang Ranch and various other lawful Brothels, and
I know that the sex trade is nothing more than a business to most who are in it. However, there are some who get
totally involved in the debasement of the human form, no matter how it comes to them, and see it as a way of making
money from sinister usages. I would be mortified if I ever became aware that the things Mr. Robinson writes about
and gets involved with in To Skin A Cat, via Joe Box (the P.I., detective), ever came into being here in
Nevada.
Joe is a really nice guy who couldn’t handle being a cop, because of the death of his young wife and unborn son
in an auto accident while he was young. Thus he decided to opt out of that type of profession. However, he has
always wanted to make the world a safer, better place for all those other people who have young children and full,
young, happy marriages. He is a pretty well known P.I. in his home state and is just about to get married again,
after some thirty years of being solo, to Angela. He has a run in with a Morris Chalafant, in his office, and
later at the Church he attends, with Cyrus Tate. Both of these men play important roles in the death of one of
his colleagues/friend Billy Barnicke. While on the quest to find out who murdered his friend, he meets up with a
youngster named Kip and his grandmother, Sarah Poole, with some rather astounding consequences. A fast paced
novel that will have you crying, laughing, and wanting so much for the good guy to win. All the while, everything
that eventually comes to him, comes hard and fast with a sense of longing, while being tempered with an understanding
that all eventually ends right. A must read for anyone who loves a great little murder mystery, that has a few
morally uplifting solutions. Sit down; enjoy this book, you won’t be sorry. |
