Trojan Horse
24 Declassified
by Marc Cerasini
If, like me and millions of other people you are a fan of 24 you will be thrilled
to hear that Simon & Schuster are publishing a series of books that tell us what Jack
was doing on some other days. Each story takes place over a 24 hour period of course,
and this one was set before the first season when he was still married and living a
(relatively) normal life. This is a tortuous tale of a Trojan Horse computer virus,
a Hollywood awards presentation attended by world leaders, Chechnyans and of course, the
obligatory rogue Muslims.
The gang is almost all here, and this is a faster paced story than the TV series with
less in it, but absolutely no repetition or treading water. This is a potent mixture
of current affairs, terrorism, high level and high tech operations and plenty of blood
and guts (more than on TV) and a fast and exciting read. It reminded me why I like this
sort of thing so much and yes, I do intend to read the others. We don't learn anything
new about the characters but then nobody usually does from a TV tie-in, but it is interesting
to backtrack to how things were before the present series. With a scenario this good,
it is great to be able to find out what else CTU does apart from the TV series. More,
please. |
