Acts of Violets
A Flower Shop Mystery #5

by Kate Collins

Abby Knight is a quirky flower shop owner who gets wrapped up in helping her mysterious boyfriend, Marco, in trying to clear his name for the murder of Snuggles the Clown. Abby works with two of her closest friends. Their friendships remind this reader of the friendships that exist between girlfriends in high school and college. Abby’s mother is another quirky character who plays a minor role in Abby’s life and her attempts to clear Marco’s name.

The mystery behind who killed Snuggles, a clown with a bad attitude towards people, is enjoyable; and even though Marco is the main suspect, Abby’s digging develops some more suspects. The suspects all play their roles and have their alibis as all good suspects do. Abby makes appropriate choices while she digs for information for Marco, even undercovering a little history that Marco had had in the past. Even though Abby is an amateur investigator, it’s apparent that she learned from Marco, a former cop and current private investigator, through the time that they have been dating.

The small town setting is perfect for a mystery like this. It adds a hometown feel with the local Pickle Festival and all the people who knew each other during Abby’s investigation.
